It was ssued by the Standards Council on May 15 202i with an effective date of June 4 2021 and supersedes all previous editions. This edition of NFPA 252 was approved as an American National Standard on June 4 2021. In 1953 anew NFPA Comitee onFireTess was formedbyaction of the Board f Directorsand remendations for revision of the sandard made by that.mitee were adopted in 1958 1969 1972 1976 1979 1984 and 1990. The basic procedure covered by this stanclard was developed by Underwriters Laboratories Ic. and has not undlergone any significant revisions to the original concept. The 1995 edition introduced anew proision adressing th eutral plane of the fuace. That provision permits the testingagency to stabih theutral plane of the testface o the pecifcaion of the particar need by condlucting the test under cither positive pressure or atospheric pressure. The 1999 edition of NFPA 252 contained further editorial refinements to harmonize the procedures and terminology with those found inNFPA 251 Sered Methods fTsts fFin Resisene Assbi an NFPA80 S fFirDs dFiWnThe 1999editn ao providd greater clarification for the hose stream application and procedure and the application and reporting of positive pressure testing for door assemblies. For the 200S edition the chapter layout of NFPA 252 was reorganized to meet the Mnnal ofSyl for NFPA Teclnical Commitee Documewt with minor editorial revisions. Revisions forthe 2008 editionncluded tighter tolerances forfumace control and the replacement of the detailed hose stream test procedures with a reference to ASTM E2226 Sendend Proctice for Application of Hose Stran. Revisions to the requirements for fumace presure and temperatures were made in the 2012 edition. The 2017 edition included new guidance on calculating pressure gradients. The 2o22 edition includes minor editorial revisions and new definitions of fire protection rating and fire resistance rating.
