AnnouncementoftheMinistryofHousingand Urban-Rural Development of thePeople'sRepublic of China No.1324 Announcement on Publishing the Professional Standard “Specification for Welding and Acceptance of ReinforcingSteel Bars" "Specification for Welding and Acceptance of Reinforcing Steel Bars" has been approved as a professional standard with a serial number of JGJ 18-2012 and shall be implemented from August 1 2012. 3.0.6 4.1.3 5.1.7 5.1.8 6.0.1 and 7.0.4 are pulsory provisions and must be enforced strictly. The former “Specification for Welding and Acceptance of Reinforcing Steel Bars" (JGJ 18-2003) shall be abolished simultaneously. Authorized by the Standard Rating Research Institute of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China this specification is published and distributed by China Architecture and Building Press. Foreword This specification was formulated by the standard revision group through extensive investigation carnest summary of practical experience and reference to relevant international standards and foreign advanced standards as well as on basis of widely soliciting for opinions according to requirements of Document Jian Biao [2009] No.88 issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MHURD) - "Notice on Printing the Development and Revision Plan of National Engineering Construction Standards in 2009". The main technical contents of this specification cover general provisions terms and symbols materials welding of reinforcing steel bars quality inspection and acceptance weldor examination and welding safety. Main contents revised in this specification are as follows: 1 Welding for hot rolled bars of fine grains is added; 2 Partial terms and symbols are added; 3 Lower diameter limit of reinforcing steel bar subjected to electroslag pressure welding is extended from 14mm to 12mm; 4With regard to welding procedures and methods contents related to flash butt welding of stirrup are added; such contents were originally listed in “flash butt welding of reinforcing steel bar" and now they are arranged in an independent section; 5 With regard to electric arc welding of reinforcing steel bar carbon-dioxide arc welding is added; 6With regard to gas pressure welding of reinforcing steel bar semi-automatic solid-state gas pressure welding of reinforcing stl bar and oxygen-liquefied petroleum gas molten-state gas pressure welding of reinforcing steel bar are added; 7 With regard to T-shaped joint of prefabricated ponents submerged-arc stud welding of reinforcing steel bar is added; 8 Requirements for appearance quality of joints are improved; 9 Requirements for “Welding safety” are added. The provisions printed in bold type in this specification are pulsory and must be enforced strictly. Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is in charge of the administration of this standard and the explanation of the pulsory provisions; Shaanxi Academy of Building Research is responsible for the explanation of specific technical contents.
