Foreword This code is jointly prepared by China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation and other organizations concermed according to the requirements of the Ministry of Construction “Notice on Printing and Publishing Development and Revision Plan of Engineering Construction Standards in 2004" (JIANBIAO [2004] No.67). Main contents revised in this code include: general provisions explosive gas atmosphere explosive dust atmosphere classification of hazardous area and selection of equipment etc. The following contents are revised: 1 The title of this code was revised i.e. "“Electrical Installations Design Code for Explosive Atmospheres and Fire Hazard" was modified into °Code for Design of Electrical Installations in Explosive Atmospheres"; revised and placed into the text; 3The former Chapter 4 “Fire Hazard Environment” was deleted; 4 Figures were deleted from text of the former code and moved into appendixes with partial new contents; 5 Provisions for application of increased-safety equipment in Zone 1 were added; 6Classification of hazardous areas with explosive dust is changed intoZone 20 Zone 21 and Zone 22" from the former two types “Zone 10 and Zone 11"; 7Grouping of explosive dust was added: Group IIIA IIIB and IIIC; 8 “Electrical Installations in Explosive Gas Atmosphere” and “Electrical Installations in Explosive Dust Atmosphere" in the former code were bined into Chapter 5 of this code "Design of Electrical Installations in Explosive Atmosphere"; 9The concept “equipment protection level (EPL)” was added; 10 Optical radiation type of equipment and transfer system with explosion-proof e s isx dnres osd pe s studies carefully summarized experience since the implementation of the code adopted part of scientific achievements referenced relevant international standards and those of developed industrial countries widely took advices from organizations concerned in China conducted many discussions and coordinations and and finalized this code finally through review. In this codecontents about firehazard atmosphere spcified in the fomer code were deltd. For electrical design with respect to fire hazard atmosphere other special design code in China shall be implemented. This code prises 5 chapters and 5 appendixes in which main contents include: general provisions terminologies explosive gas atmosphere explosive dust atmosphere and design of electrical installations in explosive atmosphere etc.. The provisions printed in bold type in this code are mandatory ones which must be implemented strictly. Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is in charge of the administration of this code and the explanation of themandatory provisions; branch on Chemical Industry China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization is responsible for the routine management and China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation is responsible for the explanation of specific technical contents.
