BS 5588-5:2004 Foreword This part of BS 5588 has been prepared by Technical Committee FSH/14. It supersedes BS 5588-5:1991 which is withdrawn. This new edition represents a retitling and full revision of the standard and introduces the following principal changes: a) new remendations for vehicle access water supplies fire control centre drawings for fire service use and smoke control; b) removal of all remendations relating to fire-fighting lifts that are now covered in BS EN 81-72; c) updating of remendations to reflect new regulations and changes in practice since the previous edition. It has been assumed in the preparation of this part of BS 5588 that the execution of its provisions will be entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people for whose use it has been produced. As a code of practice this part of BS 5588 takes the form of guidance and remendations. It should not be quoted as if it were a specification and particular care should be taken to ensure that claims of pliance are not misleading. This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users are responsible for its correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. BS 5588-5:2004 1 Scope This part of BS 5588 gives remendations and guidance on access and facilities for fire-fighting.
